The Hurworth Haven Story

Hurworth Haven began in 2022, when Jill returned home to New Plymouth and Andrew made the move across the Tasman from Australia to begin a new chapter together.
When we first purchased the property, one feature stood out — a large stormwater drainage system running along one side. It wasn’t exactly picturesque. At the time, there were two very different visions for its future: Andrew’s practical solution involved maintenance and a steady supply of Roundup… while Jill saw something entirely different — an artist’s garden waiting to emerge.
Thankfully (or bravely!), Jill’s vision won.
What you see today is the result of several years of imagination, persistence, hard work, and more than a few “you want what?” moments from Andrew. Slowly, the functional drainage area has transformed into a creative landscape — layered, evolving, and full of personality.
Hurworth Haven is still very much a work in progress. Gardens grow, ideas expand, and new features continue to take shape. We invite you to wander, explore, and experience our fabulous pond area — a space born from vision, collaboration, and a willingness to see beauty where others might not.
